WEF Conference 2016 in Delhi

The WEF 2016 conference in Delhi spanned six jam-packed days of fascinating workshops, presentations and networking opportunities and was very well attended by many women across about 109 nations.  It was a truly wonderful experience with a warmth and spiritual awareness embraced by all due to the exceptional  hospitality of our host, Harbeen Arora, Chancellor of the Rai University in India.

Mary White speaking on “Rewiring The Brain To Break Addiction” at WEF 2016 in New Delhi

I was a key speaker on the first day; the topic was “Rewire the brain to break addiction” which was very well received by the audience and resulted in a good Q&A session where I met Surekha Kothari, one of the WEF organisers, who attended my talk. We have subsequently become partners in a new venture and are organising a Spiritual Retreat. You will read more about this under “Soulseekers” on this site as the venture progresses.

I was also fortunate to speak on two other occasions at WEF 2016 on topics surrounding emotional damage and finding one’s true self.

Towards the close of the WEF 2016 conference I was honoured to be chosen to receive an award as “Iconic Women Inspiring all”, presented to me after my final talk.

I was truly sorry to see the end of the conference as I have made some wonderful friends across the world, particularly from Canada, America, Dubai and India.

The final three days of the trip were spent learning more about this amazing country and a trip to Agra and the Taj Mahal were high on my agenda, along with visits to local temples around Delhi and of course a little local shopping.

Driven to Drink – Anxiety Fix or Fad?

I am an academic turned practitioner in counselling, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy.  I am aware that many ills have a root in an inability for individuals to cope, leading to anxiety and depression.  As a result there has been an upsurge in the use of alcohol intake as a quick fix in order to alleviate anxiety and distress or depression.  On the other hand, we are aware of the way alcohol has been elevated as a must have ingredient in social interaction for the young.

My understanding and personal experience as an outsider looking in at the devastating effects of alcohol consumption on the lives of those afflicted and their family members, motivated me to wish to be of service in offering support and advice.  I therefore feel able to not only help individuals reduce or curb drinking levels through hypnotherapy, but also help those whose family life has been turned upside down by offering tolerance and understanding through counselling.

I am aware that there is no quick fix for this problem – most of my clients come to me with anxiety and stress related problems.  I welcome comments from readers here as to how we may help those who turn to alcohol to alleviate their pain of living in this stressful day to day world.

Sleeping on the job?

Hypnotherapy is a very positive way for individuals to approach and deal with many different types of personal issues.  However, issues need not be only treated in the privacy of the private practice.  It is a method that may be used in a corporate environment enabling management to help their staff cope with the stresses and anxieties of the ever increasing daily workload that may have increased due to organisational restructure and change management.  It will allow organisations to offer further benefits to their staff, thus showing a corporate concern for the environment in which they work.  With the rising depression rate in our society which manifests in some instances with increased smoking and alcohol dependence, it is necessary for management to recognise these issues and support their employees in a meaningful way.

Are you, in fact, aware of the problems that employees are experiencing outside the workplace that are impacting on their performance?  Work-related stress may influence relationships within the home and the wider family unit.  It may also trigger a physical effect through illnesses such as heart attacks, strokes, digestive disorders such as candida and lupus, and of course cancer.

So, let’s consider the benefits of hypnotherapy and counselling as an added management tool to help optimise performance through well adjusted and happy employees.  Hypnotherapy, together with counselling, or put simply, talking in a safe and private environment, enables us to establish and research the problems being experienced with the individual and offer tolerance and understanding.  It is then possible to assist in relieving stress, anxiety and depression and other related issues, such as overeating, binge and drinking/alcohol dependence  through the process of relaxation and concentration.  This relaxation technique reaches the subconscious, or unconscious, in order to work towards relieving the conscious of these issues or long-term habits that may have been troubling for some time and as a result, affecting quality of life.  Of course, this does not suit all individuals, but it is important that more individuals experience the benefits and powerful impact of learned relaxation can bring to their work-life balance.
